Technical Support Specialist (IT)

Scope and Responsibilities
Under direct or limited supervision, assists in the day-to-day operations of the local area network and provides technical support to end-users for PC, server, telecom, hardware, or software applications.
• Assists in the installation, maintenance, and usage of the company’s audio/visual, telecom, network, and compute resources.
• Manages upgrades, including planning/scheduling, testing, and coordination.
• Monitors network/server performance and maintains security.
• Monitors and maintains continuity with software licensing and maintenance agreements.
• Maintains vendor relationships for purchasing, support, and services.
• Simulates or recreates user problems to resolve operating difficulties.
• May recommend system modifications to reduce user problems.
• May interact with software systems engineering and/or applications development to restore service and/or identify and correct core problem.
• Establishes and implements network/systems policies, procedures, and standards and ensures their conformance with information systems and company objectives.
• Provides input for vendor selection and new product/technology evaluation.
• Other duties as assigned.
Experience and Requirements
• Up to 8 yrs related experience.
• Knowledge of networking equipment such as cabling, routers, switches, and firewalls.
• Knowledge of computer hardware diagnosis and repair.
• Knowledge of Windows XP/Vista and typical desktop applications such as Microsoft Office, Visio, Project, Adobe, etc.
• Knowledge of Windows Server and enabling technologies such as Active Directory, Group Policy, Terminal Services, DNS/WINS/DHCP, etc.
• Knowledge of Exchange, IIS, Windows SharePoint Services, Apache, PHP, and other collaborative server technologies.
• Knowledge of Linux operating systems a plus.
• Knowledge of telephony concepts a plus.
Education
• College degree or equivalent experience.
• MSITP, MCTS, MCDST, MCSA, MCSE, CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, or A+ Certifications a plus.
Physical Requirements
• Must be able to work extended hours in the event of a critical information need or special project.
• Must be able to perform routine office duties including computer keyboard use.
• Must be able to lift equipment or other material weighing up to 50lbs.
• Must be able to sit for long periods of time, handling, feeling with hands, reaching with arms.
• Must be able to manipulate small components such as screws and plugs.
• Must be able to focus, with close vision.
• Must be able to tolerate moderate noise conditions.
